Fall colors continue to lag behind average

While the colors are really starting to pop, especially in the northern areas, we are still a solid week to 10 days behind schedule… and you have Mother Nature to blame for that.  The dozen or so 80 degree days in September and the lack of truly chilly temperatures so far this fall has led to leaves hanging onto their green a little longer.  Now, the northern areas have seen a couple of freezes already, which has really sparked the reds and yellows as trees go dormant for the winter, but with overnight lows not officially entering the 30’s as of yet in the metro, we are still behind on our color.  In fact, we are behind our first annual freeze as well, typically coming in the first few days in October for the metro, and it is nowhere in sight.  Here is a current look at our fall color…
