(KMSP) - Minneapolis and St. Paul have declared snow emergencies following the first of two snowfalls expected this weekend. Overnight Thursday into Friday, the Twin Cities metro saw three to six inches of snow, with 5.6 inches recorded at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport as of 6 a.m. on Friday.
MINNEAPOLIS SNOW EMERGENCY RULES
Snow emergency parking rules begin at 9 p.m. on the day of the declaration. Vehicles in violation of snow emergency parking rules will be tagged and possibly towed to the Minneapolis impound lot.
Day 1 - No parking on snow emergency routes (marked with a red sign) beginning at 9 p.m. until 8 a.m. the next day.
Day 2 - No parking on the EVEN side of non-snow emergency routes from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Day 3 - No parking on the ODD side of non-snow emergency routes from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
After a street is fully plowed curb-to-curb, you are free to park there, even if snow emergency parking rules are still in effect. Plows may come through more than once, so make sure that it is fully plowed as wide as possible before parking.

ST. PAUL SNOW EMERGENCY RULES
Day 1 - Snow emergencies begin with NIGHT PLOW ROUTES at 9 p.m. the day of the declared snow emergency. Night Plow Routes are marked with signs, except for downtown St. Paul where all streets are part of the Night Plow Route. Parking is banned on Night Plow Routes until the street is plowed full-width. Vehicles not moved from Night Plow Routes by 9 p.m. on the day of the declared snow emergency will be ticketed and towed.
Day 2 - Snow emergencies continue with DAY PLOW ROUTES the morning following the declared snow emergency. Plowing starts around 8 a.m. There are NO SIGNS on Day Plow Routes, but parking is banned on these routes until the street has been plowed full-width.
Next 4 days - Tagging and towing continues for 96 hours of night plow and day plow cycles following a snow emergency.
