MN weather: Thursday afternoon forecast update

FOX 9 meteorologist Keith Marler has your updated Thursday afternoon forecast, as rain is expected in the Twin Cities overnight.

Expect a cloudy and mild Thursday with temperatures in the upper 30s ahead of a rainy day on Friday.  

Thursday’s forecast in Minnesota 

What to expect: It’s a mostly cloudy day on Thursday with highs in the upper 30s and southerly winds at 5-10 mph. The Twin Cities metro daytime high is 37 degrees, well above the average high of 26 degrees. 

The day will stay mostly dry though a light drizzling cloud develop in the evening, before transitioning to spotty drips overnight. 

Temperatures will stay in the mid-30s overnight, with the possibility of patchy fog forming.

Future Twin Cities forecast 

What's next: Friday brings wet but mild conditions, with highs in the 40s. Scattered rain showers are expected to develop overnight Thursday and persist into Saturday, for a wet end to the workweek. 

As the rain moves north, it may transition to pockets of snow showers in northern Minnesota. In the Twin Cities, the rain should taper off by Saturday afternoon, though the cloud cover will persist. 

Temperatures will remain in the 40s through Sunday before gradually cooling to more seasonable highs for the start of the new year.
