MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Expect a calm New Year’s Eve in Minnesota with seasonable temperatures and mostly cloudy skies. 

New Year’s Eve forecast in Minnesota

What to expect: It will be a quiet New Year’s Eve with seasonable temperatures in the 20s. The Twin Cities metro area's daytime high is around 28 degrees. The cooler air is moving in due to a shift to northwest winds, which will bring a noticeable chill with wind speeds at 10-15 mph. 

The cloud coverage will remain in place on Tuesday, though some sunshine could break through later in the afternoon. 

By Tuesday night, skies will remain cloudy and temperatures will dip into the lower 20s, though conditions will remain relatively mild.

What's next: Temperatures will continue to fall throughout the week, reaching the teens by Thursday and setting the tone heading into next week. 

Wednesday afternoon may see a bit of sunshine as the clouds start to thin, and by Thursday afternoon, the southern half of Minnesota is more than likely to see some sunnier skies.
