Minnesota weather: Sunny with record warmth likely on Thursday

Thursday could bring record highs to the Twin Cities, along with sunny skies and a light breeze.

What to expect:

The Twin Cities is on track for record-breaking warmth on Thursday, with highs expected to reach around 50 degrees—surpassing the daily record of 48 degrees set in 1989. The average high is 24 degrees. 

Much of Minnesota will experience warmer temperatures with widespread 50s in the south, 40s across central regions, and 30s in the north.

The warmer temperatures are accompanied by an abundance of sunshine and light westerly winds at 5-10 mph. However, the warmth will be short-lived as temperatures drop back below freezing overnight. 

Rain-snow mix this weekend

What's next:

Winds will shift from the north, ushering in cooler air Friday, although temperatures will remain above average in the mid to upper 30s. Northern Minnesota will be colder with highs in the teens.

Light precipitation is possible over the weekend, with a mix of light snow and rain Saturday afternoon and evening. By Sunday, temperatures will warm into the 40s before plummeting into the teens for the start of the week.
