MN weather: Bright and tranquil day on Wednesday

Expect a sunny start to the day on Wednesday before clouds arrive in the afternoon. Temperatures remain steady in the upper teens and lower 20s. FOX 9 meteorologist Cody Matz has your forecast.

Expect a quiet day on Wednesday with seasonable temperatures and sunshine before clouds build later in the day. 

Wednesday’s forecast in Minnesota 

What to expect:

It’s going to be a tranquil day on Wednesday with plenty of sunshine, blue skies and southwest winds at 5-10 mph. 

Temperatures remain steady in the upper teens and lower 20s statewide. The Twin Cities metro daytime high is 21 degrees. 

A clipper system will bring high clouds in the late afternoon and evening hours. Overnight, increasing cloud cover will help keep temperatures milder in the teens. 

Chances for snow in Minnesota

What's next:

The clipper system will bring a chance for snow on Thursday. Snowflakes will start in western Minnesota Thursday morning, gradually moving east to the metro area by the afternoon.

Light flurries could linger in the Twin Cities into the evening, but the snowfall amounts will be minimal. The metro may see a light dusting or coating, while western and northern Minnesota might receive up to an inch. Temperatures will be warmer on Thursday with highs in the 30s in southwestern Minnesota and around 29 degrees in the metro. 

Temperatures will then cool slightly heading into the weekend. Another clipper system is expected on Sunday, bringing a chance for light snow.

Early next week, temperatures will return to the low and mid-teens, accompanied by plenty of sunshine.
