Minnesota weather: Windy with falling temps Sunday, frigid Monday
MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - A clipper system will push to the east of us on Sunday, leaving us with falling temperatures, strong winds, and tough travel in some areas. We turn quite bitter to kick off the work week.
Sunday & Monday forecast
What we know:
Snow will end as the day progresses with little to no accumulations possible through the midday hours.
Temperatures will fall from the 20s on Sunday morning to the teens by the afternoon.
Gusty northwest winds pick up, leading to some blowing and drifting in open areas.
Expect a tougher travel day due to the new snow and some freezing drizzle, followed by gusty winds.
Gusts look to be around 30 mph to 35 mph in some areas.
This strong northwest wind will last into the first part of the overnight hours and will continue to draw in bitter air.
Wind chills tonight will dip into the -15 degrees to the -20 degree range with actual temperatures bottoming out near or below 0 degrees.
Temperatures won’t do much for Monday. Plan on a very frigid day with single-digit highs and very cold wind chills.
Extended forecast
What's next:
The cold will last through Tuesday before a nose of warmer air arrives back in the state and region.
The forecast still shows single-digit highs on Tuesday, but it looks seasonable for Wednesday, which will feel quite mild after a few really cold days.
The warmer air will bring a good shot at parts of the state to reach above freezing for both Thursday and Friday.
This warm up may be short-lived as another cold front looks to approach Friday night into Saturday, bringing us back down to being colder again.
