MN weather: Here's how cold it will get during Wednesday's cold front

A cold front moving in late on Tuesday will bring frigid temperatures and subzero wind chills across Minnesota. 

What to expect

A cold front will push through Minnesota late Tuesday night, bringing the chance for late night snow and causing temperatures to plummet. 

The cold front will first arrive in northern Minnesota around 10 p.m., and move southeast across the state. By Wednesday morning, the Twin Cities metro will have temperatures in the single digits, while northern Minnesota will see below zero temperatures.

Gusty conditions will make things feel much colder throughout the day on Wednesday. Wind chills in the afternoon will be around 15 below zero in the metro, and 20 to 30 below zero in northern Minnesota.

The coldest wind chills will likely occur overnight into Thursday morning. Feels like temperatures in central Minnesota will be around 20 below zero, while temperatures in the arrow head region will feel close to 40 below zero.

Late day snow

The cold front is bringing light snow across Minnesota, including the Twin Cities metro, overnight on Tuesday. Some areas may see anywhere from a light dusting to around an inch of accumulation.

Looking ahead 

Thursday brings lighter winds and more sunshine, though the cold persists with highs in the single digits. 

Things start heating up by the end of the week with temperatures in the 20s on Friday and into the 30s for the weekend.
