MN weather: Northeastern Minnesota snow totals from Sunday-Monday storm

Northeastern Minnesota picked up several inches of fresh snow from Sunday into Monday morning. 

Here's a look at how much fresh snow the area picked up.

  • Grand Marais: 8.5 inches
  • Hovland: 8 inches
  • International Falls: 7.8 inches
  • Kabetogama: 7.6 inches
  • Cook: 6.5
  • Ely: 6.3 inches
  • Chisholm: 5.7 inches
  • Wales: 5.5 inches
  • Orr: 5.5 inches
  • Brimson: 5.4 inches
  • Two Harbors: 4.8 inches
  • Taconite: 4.2 inches
  • Duluth: 3 inches

School closings

The storm led to several schools being delayed or closed on Monday, Dec. 9. They are: 

  • Brainerd District: Opening 2 hours late
  • Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig: Closed
  • Crosby-Ironton District: Remote learning day
  • Cross Lake Community School: Remote Learning Day
  • Discovery Woods: Delayed 2 hours
  • Hill City District: Delayed 2 hours
  • Menahga District: Delayed 2 hours
  • Nevis District: Remote learning day
  • Pequot Lakes District: Delayed 2 hours
  • Pine River-Backus District: Delayed 2 hours
  • Staples-Motley Schools: No morning adventures program
  • Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Schools: Remote Learning Day

Fresh snow for trails, Lutsen Mountains

This round of wintry weather provided some fresh powder for the region, including Lutsen Mountains and the state parks and trails. 

Lutsen Mountains opened for the season over the weekend after making enough snow. Meanwhile, you can check snow depth and trail conditions at Minnesota State Parks and Trails here
