11 hospitalized in fiery crash near Animal Kingdom

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that sent 11 people to the hospital near Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World.

Troopers say an SUV was going the wrong way on Sherbeth Road and collided head-on with a bus that was carrying 16 people. Both vehicles caught fire.

Troopers say two adults and one child from the SUV were transported to local hospitals, while eight people from the bus were also transported.

Troopers say a drowsy driver likely caused the crash after they interviewed the SUV driver's 7-year-old son. He told them that he and his parents had spent the day at a Disney Park.

Troopers say the boy believes his mother fell asleep behind the wheel. Troopers have yet to interview his parents because of their injuries.

The crash remains under investigation. Charges are pending against the mother. Our news partners at the Orlando Sentinel report that the woman has had 5 traffic tickets since 2009 (http://bit.ly/1XtSig3).
