2-year-old killed in St. Paul, Minnesota shooting

Investigators are working to determine the circumstances that led to a child being shot and killed Wednesday afternoon in St. Paul.

Police say the initial 911 call came in at 1:12 p.m. for the report of a 2-year-old boy with a head injury on the 800 block of Rice Street.

However, when medics arrived at the apartment, they found the boy had actually been shot. Medics called the police while attempting to revive the boy, but the child was ultimately pronounced dead.

Right now, investigators say the circumstances that led up to the shooting are unclear. Police say three minors who were in the apartment have been brought in for questioning.

But, at this time, police say they aren't sure exactly how the boy was shot and whether it was an accident or not. They also aren't sure if there were other people in the apartment at the time of the shooting, besides the three minors that are in custody.

The department's Forensic Services Unit is currently collecting evidence but police say the medical examiner's report could shed some more light on the shooting.
