Man shot and killed inside Minneapolis apartment

A man was killed after being shot inside an apartment building in Minneapolis Thursday night.

What we know:

According to Minneapolis police, officers responded to an apartment building on the 1100 block of James Avenue North on reports of a shooting. 

Police say they believe a man was inside the apartment building when someone fired gunshots at him. 

The victim was declared dead at the scene. The suspect fled before police showed up, and no arrests have been made. 

What they're saying:

"Our investigators are fully dedicated to bringing justice to the victim and providing answers to his family," said Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara. "We strongly encourage anyone with information about this tragic incident to come forward and support our efforts to bring accountability for this family."

What we don't know:

The motive behind the shooting is not known. Police say they are working to figure out what led up to the fatal shooting. 

The identity of the victim, and the official cause of death, will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office. 

No suspect information has been released.
