‘Holiday spirit’ not dependent on ‘white Christmas’ say Twin Cities businesses
MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - If you are new to the Twin Cities in the past few years, not seeing a lot of snow on the ground a few days out from Christmas might not seem unusual.
White Christmas history
What we know: Historically, Minnesotans do experience more white Christmases than not.
However, with a chance for decent snow this week, the question is will it stick around for Christmas day.
People across the region said while a white Christmas would be nice, there are a lot more ways to keep the Christmas spirit alive.
"I like the smaller Frasers just because they hold their needles the longest. Balsams have the best scent. They’re soft needles. They have a little weaker branches than the Frasers, but they just smell so good. And then our Canaans is a mix between a Fraser and a Balsam," Jake Nelson at B&J Evergreen explained to FOX 9.
A family picking out their perfect Christmas tree at B&J Evergreen in St. Louis Park on Tuesday agreed they found the right one.
"We just wanted a good, beefy tree," said Mahogany.
"This tree definitely matches our vibe really well," said Olivia.
What the family did not agree on is how they felt about the lack of snow in the Twin Cities metro late into the season.
"Definitely, I’d like snow on Christmas," said Mahogany.
"No, thank you," said Olivia.
Businesses affected
What they’re saying: With the potential for decent snow this week, the B&J Evergreen team said they are hoping for a white Christmas.
"That’s the Christmas spirit, you know, you got to have snow," said Nelson. "We’re ready, we got shovels, we got plows. We’re open through the weekend. Weather doesn’t bother us too much."
Another business serving up holiday cheer is Nico’s Tacos.
"Our Christmas music, to our Christmas drinks, our Christmas spirit," said Tra Carter at Nico’s Tacos. "We all think of each other as family at Nico’s, so this is our invitation to invite you into the family."
At their Penn location, you are greeted by Santa before entering the festive dining room and bar.
"Why not continue the Christmas spirit at all of our locations. We all love Christmas around here. Why not mix tacos and Christmas together to make a beautiful fusion," said Omar Mora at Nico’s Tacos. "There’s a special drink that we have called the Fireplace Sipper, that’s mulled wine, that will also keep you warm."
People say whether it is a white Christmas or not, there is a lot more to making the season magical.
"It’s all about a time to come together and enjoy everything," said Carter.
"I think Christmas is fun as long as you’re with people you love," said Olivia.
The team at Nico’s Tacos said they will remain in the holiday spirit into early January.
