A traffic stop in Kansas led to the rescue of a kidnapped 6-year-old girl.

The backstory:

The Kansas Highway Patrol said a trooper had stopped an SUV for a traffic violation last week.

Authorities said the front-seat passenger had a warrant for his arrest for the kidnapping of a little girl a month prior in another state.

The trooper saw a girl, matching that age, inside the vehicle with two other men, who were in their 60's.

Authorities said the driver had a criminal history of homicide and numerous weapons violations over the years.

The trooper removed the girl from the vehicle, but she gave the trooper a false name and date of birth, authorities said.

The investigation revealed that the little girl was coached to give misinformation in an attempt to keep one of the adults out of jail.

The girl eventually gave her real name and revealed she was the kidnapped girl.

What's next:

Authorities said the girl was unharmed, and the two men were taken into custody.
