Mankato teen still missing after escaping authorities in Chaska

A teen boy who escaped authorities in Chaska on Sunday is still on the run, Blue Earth County authorities say.

The backstory:

Sunday morning, multiple law enforcement agencies were searching downtown Chaska for the missing teen.

Police said the boy was being transported by Blue Earth County deputies to the Carver County Juvenile Detention Center in Chaska when he got away from deputies around 8:30 a.m.

The boy was wearing a black jacket, pajama pants, and no shoes. Deputies say he is about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and 140 pounds.

Authorities searched for hours but were unable to find the teen on Sunday before wrapping up efforts in the early afternoon.

Chaska Police, the Carver County Sherrif’s Office, Bloomington Police, Minnesota State Patrol and the Minnesota DNR including helicopter support, Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Chaska Fire Department, Carver Fire Department, and Ridgeview Ambulance also assisted in the search efforts.

Teen still missing

What we know:

In an update on Monday, authorities said the teen was not being held in restraints while he was being transported. When the teen arrived at the detention center in Chaska, the Blue Earth County Sheriff says the teen ran off while being walked from the squad into the building.

As of Monday afternoon, deputies still don't know where the 17-year-old boy is.

While police say there is no threat to the public, they are asking anyone with information on the teen's whereabouts to call 911.

Police also asked residents to check their garages or sheds, in case the teen had sought shelter on their property.
