Burnsville police: Carjacking suspect killed in exchange of gunfire with officers

BURNSVILLE, Minn. (FOX 9) - Investigators say a carjacking suspect, who fired shots at officers, was shot and killed by police on Sunday during an incident on Highway 13 in Burnsville, Minnesota.
According to police, the man in his 20s, who has not yet been identified, was reportedly driving a vehicle with stolen plates when he was involved in a crash. Shortly after, police learned he was the suspect in an armed carjacking. Burnsville police started chasing the vehicle when they say the man fired shots at officers.
Police say the man eventually crashed the vehicle on Highway 13 near I-35W and continued firing at officers as he got out of the car. Police returned fire, hitting and killing him.
"Any death is a tragedy, and our hearts go out to everyone involved," said Burnsville mayor Elizabeth Kautz.
Kautz told Fox 9 that while the investigation is still in its infancy, she stands behind officers’ actions Sunday.
"We value the work our police officers do in our community every day and we will need to get all the facts before we make any judgements."
Officers were wearing body cameras during the incident. That footage is being processed by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension which has been brought in to investigate the shooting.
No officers were injured in the shooting. The officers who fired shots have been placed on administrative leave, per police protocol.
The man has been identified as 30-year-old Bradley Michael Olsen of Dresser, Wisconsin
