Open Eye Theatre brings theater to park near you

This summer, you can let the theater come to you. The award-winning crew behind Open Eye Theatre has brought back the Driveway Tour series and added a new show. Molly and the Magic Boot is the newest story utilizing puppets. Open Eye Theatre has dozens of shows lined up all over the metro. Many of the performances are free and will take place in public parks, libraries and city centers. The dates and locations for those shows can be found on the Open Eye Theatre website.

Cat lovers unite for Cat Video Festival

This week is all about the cats. The Cat Video Festival is back and bigger than ever. It will take place on August 3rd at CHS Field in St. Paul. This year’s charity partner is Caring for Cats, a North St. Paul no-kill shelter and foster network. The non-profit started in 2001. In 2021 the organization opened the doors to a new a state-of-the-art cat shelter. One dollar of every ticket sold will benefit Caring for Cats.

Corgi races coming to Canterbury Park

Watch out for the wiggle butts! That’s a commonly-used nickname for corgis and they’re taking over Canterbury Park on Sunday, July 30. The Dog Race Days series continues with corgi races in between the horse races. There will be six heats with 72 corgis competing to move on to the “Best of Beed’ races on Sept. 3. Horseracing begins at 1 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, and $7 for kids between 6 and 17 years old. Kids 5 and under are free. The day will also include free facepainting and pony rides from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Tour Twin Cities most spectacular water gardens

The term backyard oasis definitely applies to the homes featured on this years’ Minnesota Water Garden Society Tour. The homes feature ponds, waterfalls and streams. The tour takes place on Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30. There are 10 homes across the metro to visit. The gardens are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Ticket prices are $15 for advanced sales, $20 day of the tours and $5 for a single site. The tour is self-guided and the tickets are good for both days.
