Thursday morning the Minneapolis City Council is slated to vote on the new contract for the Minneapolis Police Department. If approved, the new contract would make MPD one of the highest paying departments in the state. Chief Brian O'Hara joined the FOX 9 Morning news to discuss what the deal would mean for officers and recruitment efforts.

Damage assessment after Midwest storms, tornadoes

Severe storms caused damage in the Midwest on Monday. At least one tornado touched down in Iowa, and travelers had to take shelter underneath a Chicago O'Hare International Airport terminal. Officials will be in Iowa on Tuesday to assess the damage.

Minneapolis park workers walked off the job on the Fourth of July for a week-long strike, but the union says they are going to continue fighting and extend their strike indefinitely, adding they demand contract negotiations from the park board.

Meet the new Children's Theatre Company director

American Gothic exhibit at MIA

As the United States marks Juneteenth, a local woman continues her mission to inspire young people to think of Juneteenth as more than just a one-day event. Robin Hickman is the great niece of nationally-recognized photographer Gordon Parks. Parks' work is the center of an exhibit at the Minneapolis Institute of art called American Gothic: Gordon Parks and Ella Watson. The gallery is on display through June 23rd.

The MacPhail Center for Music hosted “The Native Spirits Sing”, a concert dedicated to Native composers at Antonello Hall.
