1 child killed, 1 seriously injured in crash on I-35 near Elko New Market

Minnesota State Patrol officials confirmed a young girl was killed and a 9-year-old was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on I-35 near Elko New Market on icy roads Sunday night.

Family identified the victim as 5-year-old Marciano Henderson, she died at the scene.

At about 8:15 p.m., a Yukon traveling northbound on I-35 near mile post 78, just north of the Elko exit in the right lane, lost control and entered the east ditch and rolled.

9-year-old Jaevon Davis was ejected out of the middle seat and air lifted to Hennepin County Medical Center. He was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered serious injuries. Another 12-year-old boy suffered minor injuries, while a 3-year-old and three adults were not injured.

There was no alcohol detected on the driver. All people in the vehicle are from St. Paul.

In Fridley, a 24-year-old woman passenger died in a crash on Sunday evening.
