CRIME ALERT: Woman offered ride on University Ave, raped

The University of Minnesota has issued a neighborhood safety notice to the campus community after a woman was allegedly offered a ride on University Avenue, then sexually assaulted by the driver.

Minneapolis police received a report of a sexual assault at 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, April 25. Officers learned the alleged crime happened on Saturday, April 24 sometime between 9:30 p.m. and midnight.

According to the police report, the victim was on University Avenue between 10th Avenue and 13th Avenue when a man she did not know offered her a ride. She got into the car and rode with the suspect for a period of time to an unknown location. When the victim returned home, her roommate called Minneapolis police on behalf of the victim, who said she had been sexually assaulted.

According to the neighborhood safety notice: “The victim describes the suspect as a multi-racial male with a medium complexion. The suspect had short black hair and acne scarring on his face. The suspect vehicle was described as possibly a red two-door car."
