Hennepin County election officials certified the results of last week's election Tuesday, officially declaring Dave "Hutch" Hutchinson the next Hennepin County Sheriff.

The official results show Hutch won by more than 2,340 votes over incumbent Rich Stanek. Stanek had held the job for the past 12 years.

Stanek formally conceded on Tuesday.

“I have congratulated Sheriff-elect David Hutchinson on the results of the race, and the transition is underway,” Stanek said in a statement. “It is a great honor to serve alongside the dedicated men and women in the Sheriff’s Office, and I look forward to continuing my service to the residents of the county until my term expires.”

The sheriff-elect, Hutch, is currently a Metro Transit police sergeant. He is poised to become the first openly gay sheriff in the Midwest.
