WATCH: Officials update on plane crash into neighborhood

A small plane crashed in a Fairview, Oregon neighborhood on Saturday morning. Gresham Fire Chief Scott Lewis said two people were aboard the plane and one person was missing from the townhomes.

FAIRVIEW, Ore. - One person is missing and several families are displaced after a small plane crashed into a residential building outside of Portland, Oregon Saturday morning.

Gresham Fire Chief said two people were on board the plane when it crashed around 10:20 a.m. in Fairview, about 20 minutes east of Portland.

Officials said as the plane was falling, it hit a power pole, knocking down power lines into a field and sparking a small brush fire before crashing into a townhouse complex.

One townhome resident is missing and at least five families are displaced, officials said. At least one of the townhomes appeared to be completely engulfed in flames, KPTV reports.

The crash knocked out power to 9,000 homes and businesses in the area.

The Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as a twin-engine Cessna 421C, which it says went down around 10:30 a.m. near Troutdale Airport, about a 30-minute drive east of Portland. The website for the Port of Portland, which oversees general aviation and marine operations in the Portland area, describes Troutdale Airport as a "flight training and recreational airport."

It’s unclear what caused the plane to crash.
