K-9 killed, officer injured in police shootout in Duluth, Minnesota
DULUTH, Minn. (FOX 9) - A police K-9 was killed in a shootout at a house in Duluth, Minnesota Sunday evening.
At 6:29 p.m., officers responded to a house on the 1000 block of West Skyline Parkway on a report of a domestic assault with a weapon, according to the Duluth Police Department. Officers located the suspect and began to negotiate with him for his arrest.
After an hour of negotiations, the suspect opened fire on the officers, striking one officer and killing his K-9 partner, Haas.
Another officer returned fire. When officers eventually entered the suspect’s room, they found him dead. Police did not say how he died.
The officer who was hit suffered a non-life threatening injury. He was taken to the hospital, but has since been released.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the incident. They are expected to release more information on Monday.
