Wild eliminated by an inch, but 'Let's Go Crazy' rocks the X
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) - Down 4-0 in the third period of Game 6, the Minnesota Wild scored 3 unanswered goals in just 4 minutes and 51 seconds, with Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” blaring from the Xcel Energy Center’s sound system after each goal. Dallas scores, goes up 5-3 with 9:32 left in the third. Dallas put Minnesota’s furious comeback on hold with a goal at the 9:32 mark to give the Stars a 5-3 cushion. But the X erupted again when Jason Pominville scored to pull the Wild within one.
Goal or no goal?
Facing elimination and playing with an empty net, the Wild appeared to tie the game at 5-5 with just 33.9 seconds remaining. But an official review determined Dallas goaltender Antii Niemi stopped the puck before it completely crossed the line.
"We need to bring that the whole game," Charlie Coyle said after the loss. "It was right there for us -- never out of the fight there. It came down to inches."
Tribute to Prince
The Wild honored the life and legacy of Prince with a dazzling tribute of purple lights and lasers before Sunday's faceoff. The light show was followed by a moment of silence.
“This week the world lost one of the greatest musical legends of all time,” Wild public address announcer Adam Abrams said. “His music transcended generations and cultures. As we witnessed of the last few days, his reach covered the entire globe, like’ we’ve never seen before.”
