'Extreme horse skijoring' coming to Canterbury Park Saturday
SHAKOPEE, Minn.(KMSP) - A new sport is coming to Canterbury Park Saturday.
Extreme horse skijoring involves a snowboard or pair of skis and a horse galloping – pulling the rider at top speed. Skijoring means “ski driving” in Norwegian and is now a competitive worldwide sport.
With $1,500 in prize money—this competition is a first for Canterbury Park.
Gates open at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning. Competition in four different divisions starts at 1 p.m.
Spectators will also see fire dancers and an exhibition of freestyle snowboard skijoring.
Admission is $10 and free for ages 17 and younger.
