Minnesota weather: Slowly warming Friday leads to wintry mix late Friday night

Warmer temperatures are on the way on Friday and will extend into and through the weekend as well.

Friday forecast

Friday's temperatures will slowly rise throughout the day with a quiet evening expected.

The day will begin with sunshine before clouds move in during the early afternoon.

Overnight is when moisture is expected to stream in from the south and west.

An overnight wintry mix is possible, especially along and south of the interstate 94 corridor.

This could lead to some snowflakes, but there is more likely to be a touch of freezing drizzle or freezing mist that will lead to some ice concerns, especially on untreated surfaces.

Residents are reminded to watch their back decks, sidewalks and driveways for possible ice hazards.

Looking ahead

Wake up temperatures on Saturday will be about 24 degrees in the Twin Cities, and will continue warming up from there.

Slippery travel is possible all the way through Saturday.

It likely won't be much, but the ice will cause some concerns, even on main roads that have been treated.

That comes with a couple of snowflakes and some freezing drizzle mixing in at times.

Sunday is expected to be dryer, with above freezing temperatures by the afternoon.
