3 in custody after fight, lockdown at St. Paul Central HS
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) - St. Paul Central High School was placed on lockdown Monday morning after a fight in a bathroom and the search for a possible gun. St. Paul Public Schools reported all students are safe.
St. Paul police responded to a fight at the school around 10:15 a.m. Monday. There was a mention of a possibility of a gun in the building, leading to a search.
The lockdown was lifted shortly after 11:30 a.m. Police and the school district said an Airsoft gun and two knives were recovered and three people were taken into custody.
Statement from St. Paul Public Schools
"Saint Paul Central High School went into a lockdown for 85 minutes today after two students fought and it was discovered that one of the students could have had a weapon in their possession. It was later learned that a student brought two knives and a BB gun to school. The weapons were not used during the altercation and were swiftly confiscated.
School leaders said that over the weekend the two students made plans to fight while at school today. The incident started with a verbal confrontation during an early lunch period and then turned physical. Several students witnessed the fight.
There are severe consequences for students who behave this way. Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) will follow its strict discipline procedures as outlined in the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.
As always, safety remains a top concern for Central High School and every other school within SPPS."
