'Midnight Madness': Minnesota candidates make final push ahead of Election Day

It's Election Eve in Minnesota as Republican and Democratic candidates burn the midnight oil, canvassing the entire state up until the very last minute.

Some even participated in a “Midnight Madness” rally in St. Paul.

At the Labor Center in St. Paul, folks from the DFL party set up for the last event of the night before polls open bright and early on Election Day.

Many of the DFL candidates started across the river at an event in Minneapolis before making their way through the Twin Cities.

The rallies mark the end of a 5-day statewide bus tour where democrats have pushed for a near-record breaking Get out the Vote effort.

Monday night, DFL candidates met with supporters in Minneapolis - Attorney General candidate Keith Ellison, Congressional District 5 Candidate Ilhan Omar, Gubernatorial candidate Tim Walz and Senate candidate Tina Smith are just some of the people who made appearances.

Meanwhile, up in Elk River and Blaine, republicans worked just as hard to turn Minnesota red.
Fox 9 caught up with GOP Gubernatorial candidate Jeff Johnson who drove with Senate candidate Jim Newberger and Secretary of State candidate John Howe to greet supporters.

Johnson said he's encouraged by the huge early voting numbers and hopes to carry that enthusiasm all the way until the polls close.

“We’re going to see higher turnout in this mid-term than I think we’ve seen in a while, and for me as we’ve been traveling this state there’s just this quiet energy. They’re not announcing it from the rooftops, but they’re going to go out and vote and I feel like that’s a good sign for us,” he said.

All of the candidates we talked with said Election Eve and Election Day are actually fun--you've put in the work, you've raised the money and you just have to wait and see how the people decide.

Many will get up Tuesday morning and have a number of events before heading to their election parties in the evening.
