Minnesota weather: Cooler, fairly cloudy with evening light snowflakes Tuesday

Tuesday will be fairly cloudy with temperatures in the mid to upper 20s and a chance of light evening flurries in the Twin Cities.

Monday’s forecast in Minnesota

What we know: Patchy sunshine will start the day before clouds settle in for a mostly cloudy Tuesday. A westerly breeze at 5-10 mph will accompany steady temperatures in the mid to upper 20s across central and southern Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro daytime high is 28 degrees.

A clipper system will move in, bringing light snow flurries to the Twin Cities later in the day. The metro may see a light dusting, but most of the snow will stay in southwestern Minnesota, where a winter weather advisory has been issued. The area could see 2–3 inches of accumulation while the rest of southern Minnesota could see around an inch or less.

Flurries in the metro will wrap up by midnight as temperatures dip into the teens with fairly cloudy skies.

Snow chances in MN on Thursday

The big picture: The Twin Cities metro has yet to record its first official inch of snow this season, lagging behind previous years which saw the first measurable inch in late October or November.

What's next: However, that could change on Thursday as another clipper system is expected to move in, potentially bringing several inches of snow to the Twin Cities, and areas of northwestern and central Minnesota.

Before that system arrives, Wednesday is looking brighter with partly cloudy skies and highs in the lower 20s. Temperatures will cool into the teens at the end of the week and the first day of winter on Saturday. Things will gradually warm closer to seasonable on Sunday and into the start of the week.
