'Roller Skate Dancer Number One' is a summer mainstay around Lake Calhoun

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - If you’ve ever walked the banks of Lake Calhoun there’s a good chance you’ve seen him. “Roller Skate Dancer Number One,” as he’s called by those who work near the lake, has become a summer tradition.

“We have been here with the Tin Fish Restaurant for 13-years and he has been here since our first season,” said owner Athena Priest.

Wearing his hallmark skates, short shorts, no shirt, a bandana and headphones, Scott Hagg, aka “Roller Skate Dancer Number One,” says he started skating in the 70’s and hasn’t stopped since.

“It’s just fun, it’s the most fun I have in life, ”said Hagg.

At age 62, Hagg says the skating helps keep him fit in retirement but it’s about much more than just exercise.  Those who’ve seen Hagg cruise by say his joy is contagious.

“I saw him yesterday, he was the coolest guy, I was like I want to be that,” said David Doctor.
