TOP TEACHER: Jesse Diaz of Lakeville's East Lake Elementary School

LAKEVILLE, Minn. (KMSP) - A second grade teacher in Lakeville made the list for Fox 9's second Top Teacher Award for the 2017-2018 school year.

Jesse Diaz works at East Lake Elementary School. One of his students' parents was inspired to nominate him for the award after Diaz "renewed her son’s love of school and learning."

"He stands out besides this because at the beginning of the year, he promised the kids he will never quit on them," wrote Megan Anderson, a parent.

Diaz sets high expectations for his students, but makes sure there is always a fun atmosphere by setting the tone with his manta: "Be cool. Just be cool."

As a Fox 9 Top Teacher, Diaz's school will receive $900 from Royal Credit Union. Diaz will also receive a Subway sandwich party for 50 friends and a crystal apple award to place on his desk.
